The Visiting Nurse Association, in its 2008 Annual Report, named Dr. Stoffel a “Dental Hero” for his generosity and compassion toward vulnerable children. Here’s the story.
The VNA identified a six -year old child at a school dental screening who had multiple dental needs . This child had already had hospital dentistry but had been totally uncooperative at follow up office appointments, so the mother had not taken her back, thinking she would outgrow her anxiety.
Dr. Stoffel saw the child right away in his office and realized that she needed extensive hospital dentistry immediately.  He contacted the oral surgeons and asked them to expedite the case and work with him at the same time so that the child would only have to have one hospital admission. By the next week, the team completed all the work.
Dr. Stoffel not only routinely provides preventive and restorative services to children the VNA has referred, but he has been a long time supporter of public programming in Dubuque.
